Shania Twain Makes Jump to Big Screen in "I Huckabees" Thanks to Jude Law

It took a letter from Jude Law to persuade Shania Twain that it was time to be in a movie. The country superstar has a small cameo in David O. Russell's "I Huckabees", playing herself.

"She's an amazing global icon who is right smack in the middle of what they call the golden average," said the director of his choice to cast the singer. "She tickles me."

In "I Huckabees", a film about a hapless environmentalist's quest to solve some existential questions, Shania Twain is tabbed to be the celebrity guest at a fundraiser to save a marsh. The night of the event she lashes out at a selfish, power-obsessed organizer, played by Jude Law. Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Mark Wahlberg, Naomi Watts and Jason Schwartzman also star in the film.

"She lives in a castle in Switzerland and Jude Law wrote her a letter asking her to be in the movie - on his own, he didn't tell me till later," explained Russell, whose previous projects include Flirting With Disaster and Three Kings. "She came and she was a doll. She did whatever we wanted for a day and for a superstar who didn't know us, she did the crazy stuff we asked her to do. She was a good egg," he added. "I Huckabees" opens October 1 in select theatres.

'Party For Two' Burning Up The Charts!

Shania Twain has the third-highest debut of her career on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart , as "Party for Two" (Mercury), a duet with Billy Currington, opens at No. 39.

The only Twain titles to debut higher are "Love Gets Me Every Time," which started at No. 29 the week of October 4, 1997, and "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" which debuted at No. 24 the week of October 19, 2002.

"Party for Two" is a new track from Twain's forthcoming "Greatest Hits collection. There is an alternate version of the track, recorded with Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath, the new co-host of the TV series "Extra." Meredith Henderson to Become Shania

Ottawa-born actress Meredith Henderson, best known for starring in the youth TV series The Adventures of Shirley Holmes, will take on the role of Canadian pop-country star Shania Twain in the upcoming CBC-TV movie, filmmakers announced Wednesday.

"She commands the camera," director Jerry Ciccoritti told the Canadian Press. "Can she sing? Yes!" Ciccoritti recently explored northern Ontario shooting locations in Sudbury, Huntsville and Timmins and filming is set to begin September 20. However, Ciccoritti said he wasn't sure if the film – which will detail the transformation of Eileen Twain into Shania from 1973 to 1993 – would be completed in time for the 2004-2005 season.

The 20-year-old Henderson won a Gemini Award in her early teens for the Shirley Holmes series, in which she portrayed a descendent of the legendary sleuth Sherlock Holmes. For more information on Meredith, visit her website.
